Lawn Irrigation
Watering Tips
- Use drip irrigation for landscapes instead of automatic sprinkler systems.
- Ensure irrigation system only waters lawns and not driveways and sidewalks.
- Install a rain sensor to avoid irrigating on rainy days.
- Plant water-efficient landscaping and drought-tolerant plants.
- Add mulch to landscapes and compost to turf to help prevent water loss.
- Water your lawn between ½” to 1” of water (about 20 minutes). It takes .623 gallons per square foot, so every 10’x10’ area will require only 62 gallons of water.
Automatic Irrigation Systems
Automatic irrigation systems deliver more controlled watering directly to the roots than manual watering methods.
As much as 50% of water used outdoors is lost due to wind, evaporation, and runoff caused by inefficient irrigation methods and systems.
It’s important to inspect your irrigation system and the controller settings before you turn on your system to run automatically.
Rain and soil sensors can help smart controllers know when to run and when not to run, thereby saving water.
The LCRA is offering customers rebates for purchases towards irrigation systems.
