The weather forecast for our area calls for inclement weather with temperatures falling below freezing. The cold front is expected to arrive on Thursday evening, December 22, with a current forecast of a low reaching 13 degrees. The low temperatures will continue through Sunday December 25, 2022, with evening lows below freezing.

There is no ice anticipated so roads are expected to be open.

The State’s electric grid will be challenged to meet the needs of all Texans during this cold front so preparation for a possible power outage would be recommended.

Here are a few cold weather and energy tips:

  • Turn down the thermostats to 68 degrees or slightly lower
  • Have extra bottled water and non‐perishable food on hand
  • Know where your water shut off valve is located, typically near the street curb (watch the video below)
  • Remove garden hoses and wrap exterior pipes and facets
  • Turn off irrigation systems
  • Cover irrigation back flow valves and piping
  • Cover pool equipment and hot tubs to maintain heat levels
  • Run only full loads of laundry and dishes
  • Turn off holiday lights earlier than originally set to turn off
  • Open kitchen and bathroom cabinets to expose the pipes to the warmth
  • Know where candles and battery operated flashlights are and keep them close at hand
  • Please be proactive to assure the safest outcome for everyone during this cold weather event.
